The Alentejo is the south-central region of Portugal. The origin of its name, "além do Tejo", literally means "over the Tagus". The area is bounded to the north by the Tagus River with the Centro region to its north, to the east by Spain, to the west by Lisbon and the Atlantic Ocean, and to the south by the Algarve.
Cork oaks, olive trees and rolling fields as far as the eye can see. Here and there, towns rise with whitewashed houses. The area is flat and sparsely populated. Remnants of days gone by are numerous.
Meanwhile, many foreigners have found their way to the Alentejo, for the holidays or permanently and who knows, maybe you can also enjoy this wonderful region of Portugal soon...

Through our own emigration, already in 2004, to the region of Odemira in the Alentejo, I know how difficult it can be, and especially in these times when travel is almost impossible, to find all the offered real estate in this region on your own. Often you only end up with the big names, such as ReMax or ERA, but of course there are many more smaller real estate agents and even land plots or houses with only a sign in the garden, and so you might just miss out on your dream!

In 1998 we went for the first time, instead of Spain, to the Algarve of Portugal on holiday. What a relief! The tranquility and friendliness of the people struck us immediately, while we were used to the low season in Spain and this was really (because of the school age of our oldest son) the high season and a very touristy area. We were instantly in love!
But not just us... Due to the, rather unexpected, purchase of a holiday house, by my parents, in São Luis, in the Alentejo, who, like us, were extremely charmed by the country, Portugal became our annual holiday destination, not in the Algarve anymore, but in the beautiful Alentejo. From that moment it was clear that this could well be our future destination. Even the Algarve we now found really touristy and far too busy. So we decided, a few years later, to leave everything behind in the Netherlands and to start looking for a new place to live in the Alentejo and by the end of 2004 we, together with our two sons of 7 and 12 at the time, moved permanently.
After having been looking for a while, we found a beautiful plot of 0.8ha with ruin in 2005, just outside the village of São Luis and built on it, ourselves, a lovely house, which we moved into in 2006. By now this is totally our place with lots of peace and quiet and many animals (dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits and a pig). Our sons have turned into two grown men who also feel completely at home in Portugal.
Our first income came from starting a handyman business, which began, partly due to the construction of our own house, with some small jobs for friends and acquaintances and has now grown into a successful business for renovations, new roofs or that long-desired swimming pool, with many returning satisfied customers. Even the Portuguese know how to find us these days and all this is mainly due to good word-of-mouth advertising.
I myself have been involved in many different activities over the past few years, besides the administration of our company and some web design assignments, I also worked as an agent at the ReMax brokerage for a while.
Looking for a new challenge, I decided to use my experiences of my ReMax time and start a company to help and advise people to make their dream come true as well, here in the beautiful coastal region of the Alentejo.
I will be looking through all offers of the large and small estate agents in the coastal region of the Alentejo. In principle in a radius of about 35km around São Luis (beyond that on request). Properties that are privately offered or that I get to hear about (the local pub is thé best source of information anyway), will also be included.

You should think about, for example, actually visiting and viewing one or more properties. Of course you would like to see everything with your own eyes as soon as possible, but that may not be possible right away. To be able to ask more specific questions to the seller and to see if the pictures on the internet are not more beautiful than reality, I can do the first visit(s) for you and take more pictures and videos from all possible angles before you decide to come and see for yourself. With plots of land, for example, I can investigate whether building on it is actually allowed. Furthermore, I can of course help you in the follow-up process, such as applying for your tax number (número de contribuinte), opening a bank account and other things where help and translation is useful, especially if you do not speak the language, because even English can sometimes be difficult in this region.
Did you find a property that is offered by a private person? Then let me help you to get in contact with a reliable lawyer and notary in this region to assist you, as well as names of architects in this area, who are already familiar and known to the municipality, which can help a lot in terms of speed and possibilities with respect to architects from outside the region.
